The word "Patriarchy" is the proper word to
describe a situation,a social system in which the male is the central authority
figure to social organization and
the central roles of political, authority, and control of property, and where
fathers hold authority over women and children. Matriarchy is
a society in which females, especially mothers, have the central
roles of political leadership, moral
authority, and
control of property.
The word "Matriarchy" seems at first look to be the opposite of patriarchy as noted in the above dictionary definition. "After much deliberation, I have settled on the term 'matriarchy' for the woman-oriented societies described herein, though I am not entirely comfortable with the term.
The words "Matriarchy" and "Patriarchy" seem to be opposite in their terminology. In reality they are different but not opposite. We need therefore to come up with either different words or correct meanings.
In the difference it will be seen that there are fundamental differences that are greater in their effect then simply being opposite. Not only are political systems and social structures radically different, but the entire way the universe and all life is viewed, is equally as radically different.
Any functional need for either of those philosophical
constructs would from a logical viewpoint be indicative of an earlier
enforcement of the other, opposing philosophical construct - in an attempt to
restore the natural balance in the equation of gender roles which both of these
philosophical constructs strive to artifically manipulate, with socially
detrimental consequences as a result.
In my opinion, neither gender should artificially receive
preferential treatment or be put on a pedestal of any sort. Society simply
needs to leave the social divisions that arise from biological differences
untouched, without any nonsensical attempts at suppressing naturally occurring
"inequality" or artificially amplifying that inequality, which is
equally idiotic.
I just wanted to say we are all equal in God's
eyes.
"There is neither Greek or Jew, male or female, slave or free for we are all one in Christ."
"There is neither Greek or Jew, male or female, slave or free for we are all one in Christ."
Equal in worth, but not equivalent in funcion.
The written history of matriarchal societies is brief. |
